UAV Flight Planning & NOTAM Resources

flight-planningAs part of the SFOC process you need to be aware of the airspace you are flying in and depending on the classification you may be required to file a NOTAM.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM or NoTAM) is a notice filed with an aviation authority to alert aircraft pilots of potential hazards along a flight route or at a location that could affect the safety of the flight.

If you don’t have an aviation chart on hand for your area, a great online resource is SkyVector: http://skyvector.com/

For checking for NOTAMs in your area, the official source in Canada is NAV Canada: https://flightplanning.navcanada.ca

Another great more interactive visual resource for NOTAMs is Zulu for Pilots: http://www.zuluforpilots.com/Map

To determine the Lat/Long for a given location, which you will need to include in the NOTAM request, you can use iTouchMap.com: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html

  1. While previously exploring the FAA B4UFLY website, I thought I saw a link to NOTAMS. Now I don’t see it. Seems very logical that it would, indeed, be included as a resource. Is it & (if so) where is it?
    Thanks.
